The oldest surviving structure in Bath County,
Virginia, the Mustoe House was built in 1780 by the Mustoe family and
was occupied by their descendants for more than 160 years. Over the
years, it has been lovingly maintained and retains much of its original
character as a Registered Virginia Historic Landmark. In 1999, two
additional structures comprising galleries, showrooms and owners'
quarters were added to the 1 acre site along with a perennial English
garden which creates a courtyard surrounded on three sides by these
structures. Until recently, the Mustoe House has operated as an antique
store. Its A-2 zoning
designation also allows for use as a general store, country store,
nursery, green house, art gallery, bed & breakfast, lodge, resident
office or private or two family residence.
THE ORIGINAL 1780 MUSTOE HOUSE
The original home built on this site in 1780 features a large front family room with stone fireplace, entry
foyer, dining room, large kitchen with stone hearth fireplace and a
full bath to the rear. Upstairs are four large rooms which could be
used as bedrooms or showroom space. There are also two staircase
passages that allow access directly from two of these rooms to the
floor below. This portion of the complex contains approximately
1,532 square feet of finished space and features its own independent
security system and central sound system linked to the other
buildings.

1999 ADDITIONS - BARN AND GALLERY BUILDINGS
1999 BARN BUILDING: Across the garden courtyard from the 1780
building is the newly constructed (1999) barn style building which
contains a finished first floor showroom/workshop with 5 overhead
doors and a half bath. This 1,330 square foot space features slate
flooring, designer track lighting, automatic garage door openers and
is climate controlled by heat pump HVAC.

Upstairs is a sumptuous 1,330 square foot 1 bedroom, 1 1/2
bath apartment with a full kitchen and large living area. There are
three decks that offer views of the surrounding mountains. With
hardwood floors and custom touches throughout, this apartment is the
perfect retreat for a new owner. Outstanding features include
stainless steel appliances, designer lighting, custom hardwood built-ins,
solid surface countertops, double bath vanities, oversized tile
shower, claw-foot soaking tub and private entry.

1999 GALLERY BUILDING:
The Gallery building is situated between the 1780 house and the
newer Barn building with the perennial garden as the courtyard. This
one-story structure, completed in 1999, contains more than 1,500
square feet of finished gallery space including a 23'X 31.5' main
gallery/showroom and an adjoining 27'X 23' sectional gallery with
partition walls throughout which create hundreds of feet of display
wall space. There is also a smaller 6.5'X 23.5' rear gallery with a
small private office. The slat-wall system throughout these spaces
allows for total flexibility for displaying all manner of products,
artwork, collections, etc. A supply of slat wall hangers and hooks
are also included. The entire Gallery building features hardwood
floors throughout, designer track lighting, sound and security
systems.

The combined square footage of all three buildings is nearly 6,000 and
includes 1 acre of land. The English Garden is comprised of over 70 well
established Boxwoods and a wide variety of other perennial plantings.
The Mustoe House buildings and grounds are available for immediate
purchase and occupancy.
