The History of Bacova

Bacova Properties was founded in 1980 as a real estate investment and property management company. One of the first investments made by the firm was the “The Watson Building” which is now the home of the Bacova Properties Real Estate Sales and Information Center in downtown Hot Springs, Virginia. It was purchased to house The Bacova Guild’s Company Store. At the time, Pat Haynes was CEO and co-owner of The Bacova Guild; and Bacova Properties became the landlord of several of its operational facilities. Not long after opening this retail outlet, another Company Store opened in The Greenbrier Hotel in White Sulpher Springs, West Virginia.

The Bacova Guild grew from 20 employees to over six hundred and became the largest industry in Bath County, surpassing The Homestead in sales in 1996. Its products of decorative house wares included the signature line of mailboxes which can still be seen throughout the county and across the country.

Over the years, Bacova Properties has grown to be the largest single source for commercial, residential, and vacation rental property in Bath County. Bacova Properties’ commercial locations are accented by The Bacova Jockey. This statue is an original Bacova Guild product that has been sold world wide and is known for its historic significance. It is proudly on display at the famous Jockey Club in New York City. The Bacova Jockey represents trust, commitment, and loyalty - three characteristics that define Bacova Properties as a real estate brokerage firm, specializing in Resort, Home, Farm, & Commercial Properties.
